McNeese to Welcome 380 High School Musicians for All-Star Marching Band
Saturday, September 12 will be a special day on the McNeese campus. It is the first home football game of the season. It is military appreciation night. It will be the debut of the 2015 Pride of McNeese pregame show.
It will also be the ninth-annual McNeese All-Star High School Marching Band. Each year, high school students from across Louisiana and Texas are invited to rehearse and perform with the McNeese Cowboy Marching Band. In 2007 it began with a modest 100 or so high school students. Since then, students have continually responded in ever-increasing numbers. This year, the event will set yet another record, with 380 students registered to participate.
The high school musicians will rehearse music and field placement with the McNeese Marching Band, before having dinner. The senior students will enjoy a presentation on the college selection process and music/band scholarships, presented by McNeese faculty . The students will then join the McNeese Band for performances at the alumni center, tailgating, and ultimately at halftime of the Cowboy football game.
Students from 43 different high schools will represent their home towns on the field at Cowboy Stadium. That includes 30 Louisiana High Schools and 13 Texas High Schools. The longest distance traveled will be students from Mabank High School. Mabank High School is located 50 miles southeast of Dallas.
