Audition Requirements and Materials

Brass & Woodwinds

  1. A lyrical etude or solo of your choosing.  Performing this excerpt should indicate your ability to perform music expressively.
  2. A technical etude or solo of your choosing.  This should indicate your technical ability.
  3. Scales: Be prepared to perform major and chromatic scales throughout the practical range of your instrument.
  4. Sight reading as needed

Taped Auditions


Record the same as above on a VHS tape, MiniDV tape, DVD, Windows Media Player file, or Quicktime file. Please include your name, address, phone, and email address with your recording. Also indicate your previous marching experience or if you have never marched before. Send your audition to the address below, or to schedule an audition appointment call or write:

Band Audition Procedure

2009-2010 Audition Dates

Saturday, October 31: 10:00 A.M.

Saturday, March 20: Noon

All audition days begin with a brief meeting for students and parents in the MSU Band Hall.  There is no need to call ahead to schedule a specific audition time.

Students/Parents interested in touring campus housing should call the housing department to schedule a tour.  These tours are normally only available by appointment by calling 337-475-5606.
