What it Takes to Participate in the Cowboy Bands

Each year many freshmen join the ranks of the Cowboy Bands, participating in one or more ensembles. Most are just like you! They enjoyed their high school band experience and want to continue with music, or maybe just want to see what the college band experience is like.

What is the most enjoyable about being in the Cowboy Band?

No matter what your reason is for exploring the “MSU Band World,” here are some things we have noticed in our most successful members:

A love for or enjoyment of:

  • Music
  • Performance
  • Friendships within large groups
  • Meeting new people
  • School spirit and pride

Students participating in one or more ensembles may have many different schedule configurations. We cannot tell you how your weekly class schedule may look, but here are some of our current ensemble rehearsal schedules:
